I want to thank Jonathan of Hatfield for his question.
Q: I've been thinking about buying Subaru but really don't know much about them. I've always gone with Toyota, but I've heard that Subaru can be just as good. What model would you recommend for a family of three?
A: Wow! That's a pretty loaded question, but here goes!
Subaru makes four specific lines. They are Impreza, Forester, Legacy (includes Outback), and Tribeca. All of these are Five Star (the best) rated in crash worthiness. Virtually all are on the "recommend" list
by Consumer Reports.
All have the same 2.5i engine that has been around since the late 90's, albeit they are much improved in fuel economy, horsepower, and emissions.
Subaru is the most "green" all wheel drive vehicle in this country. By the way, Subaru's assembly plant is the most green in the world with "0" toxins being emitted.
Don't get me wrong, Toyotas car, as well as Honda are magnificent vehicles. They are just different than Subaru's.
All wheel drive is a given on ice and snow but is also amazing in the rain. Ther is no aquaplaning in the rain as there is front or rear wheel drive. It cuts through water like a hot knife through butter.
The other area of superiority is safety. There are now Subaru Dealers in all 50 states, including Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas and Hawaii. Think about the safety of All wheel drive in dry weather. Swerving to miss a small child that darts into the street, or a tree limb falling in front of you, all causing you to swerve immediately. This won't work safely in a two wheel drive vehicle.
As far as which model, your decision! All models are equally safe and reliable.
A test drive of all models back to back over the same test route is normally the decision maker.
Call me at 413-584-5355 to set up this "no obligation" test drive to help you make your decision.
If you see a Subaru with a "Steve Lewis" license plate frame, ask the owner for their opinion of Steve Lewis Subaru, both sales and service. I can't think of one person that would give you a negative response. I defy any other dealer to make that offer.
Thanks for your time and interest.
Please e-mail me any other automotive related questions. They do not have to be Subaru related. E-mail them to me, at stevelewis@subarumail.com, no matter how insignificant they may seem!
