Rogue-ish Operatic Dandy Prince Poppycock to Headline May 10 Gala at the W
BOSTON, Mass.—The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) presents Crescendo, its annual benefit gala, on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. the W Hotel, 100 Stuart St., Boston. The king (or queen) of fundraisers, Crescendo will feature the East coast debut of Prince Poppycock, the sequined sensation who enchanted millions as a finalist on NBC’s hit show America’s Got Talent.
A self-described “rogue-ish operatic dandy,” Prince Poppycock is the alter-ego of John Andrew Quale, whose career began with the Washington Opera Children’s at age 11. Quale is a singer/songwriter/actor whose musical influences range from David Bowie and Depeche Mode to opera, Madrigals, and Gregorian chant. In his 2010 audition for America’s Got Talent, Prince Poppycock, sporting an elaborate powdered wig, Kabuki make-up, and brightly-colored 18th century finery, brought down the house with his performance of the Figaro aria “Largo al Factotum” from the opera The Barber of Seville. He went on to compete as a finalist that season.
