Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Spring Concert Salutes Boy Bands Across the Generations

Boston Gay Men’s Chorus

The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus (BGMC) is pleased to present Let’s Hear It for the Boys, a raucous revue saluting generations of pop music’s pretty boys, from the Beatles to Pharrell Williams—along with rock radio staples like David Bowie, Journey, Queen and Coldplay. Performances are Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Rockland; and Saturday, March 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston.

“With more than 150 members, Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is the ultimate boy band,” said Reuben M. Reynolds, III, the Chorus’s music director. “As we mark our 35th anniversary this year we’re excited to pay tribute to the artists and bands that inspired us, uplifted us, and—depending on one’s age and the decade—made us swoon. Let’s Hear It for the Boys is a celebration of bands and artists that shaped us.”

With Let’s Hear It for the Boys, BGMC will put its unique stamp on classics like the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” “I Get Around” by the Beach Boys, David Bowie’s “Life on Mars,” and the Jackson 5’s “The Love You Save.” The Chorus will also perform hits by disco-era gay icons The Village People, the late legend George Michael, 1990’s heartthrobs NSYNC, and more recent chart-topping boy bands One Direction and A Great Big World. BGMC will also treat crowds to Journey’s classic ballad “Open Arms,” Coldplay’s buoyant “A Sky Full of Stars,” and Pharrell Williams’ infectious “Happy”—in addition to other surprises.

“This show is basically an epic boy band playlist come to life,” said Craig Coogan, Executive Director of the Chorus. “It’s just one irresistible pop hit after another. For a few nights at least, chorus members will get to be the pop stars they dreamed of becoming—or just dreamed about, period—as youngsters. Audiences will love the free-spirited energy of Let’s Hear It for the Boys.”
