Boston’s queer brown womyn celebrate the creation of a new safe space for LGBTQ women of color to seek support and socialize

BOSTON, Mass. — On Saturday March 23, 2013, nearly 100 queer brown womyn and LGBTQ allies packed MakeShift Gallery in Boston’s South End to promote the launch of HUES, a program of the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC) that offers a space where LGBTQ Black and Hispanic/Latin@ womyn can be safe, visible and celebrated.

Earlier this month, HUES officially kicked off the program by holding its first Sister Circle, a monthly gathering where Latina/Hispanic and Black LGBTQ women discuss topics relevant to their lives and communities. The Sister Circle and launch party are just some of the many events, projects and campaigns the HUES Council and HBGC will develop to encourage LGBTQ women of color to use their voices, share their stories, and support each other to transform society and self.
Gatherings like the monthly Sister Circle are opportunities for queer brown womyn throughout the Greater Boston area to think and talk about what it takes to create personal and social change. The next Sister Circle takes place Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at HBGC’s office, 485 Columbus Avenue, Boston.
For more information about HUES, please contact Corey Yarbrough at cyarbrough@hbgc-boston.org.
