TOD@S programs this fall include Yoga for Healing and support group for Spanish-speaking LGBTQ survivors of partner abuse

BOSTON, Mass.— In 2011, the Hispanic Black Gay Coalition ( HBGC) partnered with The Theater Offensive ( TTO) for Shout It Out, a workshop where members of the HBGC community transformed coming out stories into staged readings, skits, monologues and theatrical performances.

This September, TTO, HBGC and TOD@S are joining forces for TOD@S STAND, a weekend of free, energizing theatre workshops where participants can share personal stories through writing, oral storytelling, improvisation, scene/monologue creation, and movement.

Geared toward Black and Latino LGBTQ identified individuals affected by violence, TOD@S STAND blends theater games and activities, writing, acting, movement, storytelling, activism, and community building to explore moments of frustration, support, relationships, and ultimately, personal triumph.

The workshops takes place Friday, September 20th through Sunday, September 22nd at the Harriet Tubman House in Boston’s South End. Those interested in participating should email kgraves@hbgc-boston.org or call 617.487.4242. More information about TOD@S STAND can be found online at HBGC-Boston.org.

TOD@S STAND is sponsored by TOD@S (Transforming Ourselves through Dialogue, Organizing and Services), an inter-agency collaboration of The Network/La Red, The Hispanic Black Gay Coalition, The Violence Recovery Program at Fenway Health, and Renewal House, a program of the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry that works to improve and increase access to intervention and prevention services for LGBQ/T Black and Latin@ people affected by partner abuse and other forms of violence. [pullquote]Geared toward Black and Latino LGBTQ identified individuals affected by violence, TOD@S STAND blends theater games and activities, writing, acting, movement, storytelling, activism, and community building to explore moments of frustration, support, relationships, and ultimately, personal triumph.[/pullquote]

Yoga for Healing is a six-week series of trauma-sensitive yoga classes for LGBTQ people who have experienced violence and/or abuse, while Compartiendo Pan y Orgullo — Sharing Bread and Pride — is a support group for LGBTQ Spanish-speaking Latin@s who have experienced violence and/or abuse.
