Tax Day is less than a week away, standing as a glaring reminder to LGBT Americans of their current state of second-class citizenship.

Under the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, LGBT Americans face an unequal tax burden that costs the community millions of dollars each year.

As the country await the Supreme Court’s opinion in Windsor v. U.S., the case challenging the constitutionality of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, we’re rolling out infographics to illustrate how same-sex couples are denied equal treatment under the law.

Every day leading up to April 15, HRC will release a fact of the day on unfair taxation.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
