Vermont: New Lesbian and Bi-women’s Social Event, More

greenmountain_smBRATTLEBORO, VT.—  A new, monthly social event for women who love women will take place on Saturday, September 21, 6 – 8 p.m., at the Backside Café in Brattleboro, VT.  Sponsored by LGBTQ nonprofit Green Mountain Crossroads, these socials will regularly happen on the third Saturday of each month, at the same time and place.

“When Green Mountain Crossroads kicked off this last January, we heard from a number of women that social options for the women’s community were lacking,” said Deborah Potter, GMC’s Executive Director. “Our primary mission is to promote connection and opportunities for our rural community, so we started surveying and interviewing women. The concept of a simple evening get-together to meet and socialize was the most popular!” [pullquote]“Our primary mission is to promote connection and opportunities for our rural community, so we started surveying and interviewing women.”[/pullquote]

The event welcomes all women who love women, couples and singles, and will offer free refreshments and a cash bar.

Potter noted that similar events already exist for other segments of the LGBTQ community.

“There is a monthly social for gay and bi guys that happens monthly at the Backside Café on the preceding Saturdays, that regularly brings out about 40 men.  Our Trans & Queer Potluck happens the last Wednesday night of each month and also gets a good crowd.”

Most recently, GMC started a group for parents of transgender and gender-questioning youth that also meets monthly, on the third Monday.

GMC is striving to bring more social, entertainment, and educational events for the full spectrum of the rural LGBTQ community.  “Our next big community-wide offering is Self-Care for the Whole Person, a health and wellness day on Saturday, November 9,” said Potter.  “We’ll be getting more information out about that over the next month, including a presence at the Wellness in Windham fair at the end of September.”
