Amplify Latinx launches “Parranda” inspired outreach campaign to Get Out the Latinx Vote in partnership with local civic engagement organizations
BOSTON, Mass.—Amplify Latinx will launch a series of “Parranda” style, high exposure activations on November 4th and 5th, 2019 to encourage Latino voters to get to the polls in Greater Boston on Election Day. The activations are in partnership with local civic engagement organizations, including MassVote, Massachusetts Voter Table, Chelsea Collaborative and Neighbor to Neighbor.
The “Parranda” style activations will feature local musicians who will help spread the “Get Out the Latinx Vote” message through music, chanting, and interactions with the local residents.
“Parrandas” are a music tradition in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and also in other countries of Latin America during the holiday season. These activations will take place at selected T-stops in East Boston, Jamaica Plain and Chelsea, chosen for their foot traffic and high concentration of Latinos. As the musicians engage with residents to bring energy and visibility, voter rights volunteers will provide information about access to polling locations to boost voter turnout, which was only 11% in the September primary.
Amplify Latinx is bringing engagement activities that resonate with Latinx voters while involving local creatives in the process.
“As the Latino population in MA continues to grow, this community can express its collective power through bold leadership choices at the ballot box. No matter what issues or candidates reflect our values, we must make sure our voices are heard by exercising our power to vote” says Rosario Ubiera-Minaya, Executive Director of Amplify Latinx. “We are tapping into creativity and culture to capture the attention of voters and get them to the polls.”
Amplify Latinx contracted the services of Ágora Cultural Architects to coordinate the musical appearances.
