WASHINGTON—Today the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, the nation’s largest resource for openly LGBT individuals in politics, congratulated Maura Healey on her victory in the Democratic primary election for Massachusetts Attorney General. If elected in November, Healey will become the first openly LGBT attorney general in the United States.

“All of us at Victory are thrilled about Maura’s inspiring win tonight,” said Chuck Wolfe, President and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. “The wealth of experience and energy she brings to the table make her a formidable general election candidate, and we are proud to stand with her trailblazing campaign every step of the way.” [pullquote]“All of us at Victory are thrilled about Maura’s inspiring win tonight,” said Chuck Wolfe, President and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund.[/pullquote]

An alumna of Harvard University, Healey earned a Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law in 1998. She has spent more than seven years serving the people of Massachusetts in the office of Attorney General Martha Coakley, most notably by spearheading the state’s legal challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act. After announcing her candidacy in October 2013, Healey earned Victory’s endorsement in December.

The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is the largest resource for LGBT individuals in politics.  The organization works to elect LGBT leaders to public office for one simple reason.  They change America’s politics.  As leaders in government, they become the face and voice of a community.  They challenge the lies of extremists and speak authentically about themselves, their families and their community.  Since 1991, the Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBT candidates win election to local, state and federal offices.
