Transgender Day of Remembrance, TDOR, is held in November to honor Rita Hester, murdered on November 28th, 1998, according to www.rememberingourdead.org. Hester’s murder started the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a candlelight vigil in 1999. This day is now set aside to memorialize those killed because of anti-trans hatred and prejudice. The website states that TDOR serves several purposes; to raise public awareness of hate crimes against trans people, to publicly mourn and honor the lives of those who may be forgotten otherwise, to express love and respect in the face of indifference and hatred, to give allies a chance to step forward and to memorialize those who have died from anti-transgender violence.

Check out the TDOR in your state and town and support our transgender brothers and sisters. This is an event that the complete LGBTQA community supports.
