VIDEO: DNC Launches Media Campaign to #FillTheSeat

Every day this week, the DNC will highlight reasons Americans need the Senate to do their jobs, not obstruct President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

WASHINGTONThe Democratic National Committee has launched a new media campaign, #FillTheSeat, to explain why it’s so critical for Republican senators to do their jobs and allow a vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee. Each day this week, the DNC will highlight how the Republican obstruction on the vacancy in the Supreme Court affects every American, focusing every day on a different issue. #FillTheSeat Media Campaign has begun.

Today’s focus is on how the Supreme Court has had an impact on the rights of LGBT Americans. The DNC is releasing a video in conjunction with this new campaign entitled “We’re Not Done” to highlight how much is at stake.

EXCERPT: “Just last year, the court made our right to marry the law of the land. But we’re not done. There’s still plenty at stake for the LGBT community that could be decided by the Court.”

The DNC will host a media call today at 4:30 pm with leaders of the LGBT community to discuss the history of the Supreme Court in shaping the lives of LGBT Americans. To RSVP for that call, email PalermoR@DNC.org.

“Every day, we’re going to remind Republican senators that Americans want them to do their jobs and stop the obstruction. In the words of Ronald Reagan, who called on the Senate to confirm his Supreme Court nominee during his last year in office, ‘the federal judiciary is too important to be made a political football,’” said DNC National Press Secretary Mark Paustenbach. “As Chuck Grassley himself noted in 2008, ‘the reality is that the Senate has never stopped confirming judicial nominees during the last few months of a president’s term.’ The fact that Republicans are trying to change the rules for political gain just shows how little respect they have for the President, the Court, and their own responsibilities as elected officials.”

Tomorrow’s #FillTheSeat focus will be immigrant rights. The DNC will advise a media call later today.
